FD 2007 Declared a Success!

Wow, what a great weekend - thanks to each and everyone of you that did such a fabulous job over the weekend. I seriously did not think we could top the 2006 success but you know what, WE DID! We had fun, introduced the public to our incredible hobby, I may have found at least two new contesters for my contest station, we ate very well. No injuries that I am aware, and it all came down faster than last year - off the site by 4:15 PM.

Is it true we had 150 people sign in over the weekend??? We were the Stratham Hill Park attraction for the weekend! I did not get interviewed by any press so would like to know who did and who did you talk to? Did we get any TV coverage? I got a voice mail message from Gov. Lynch's office which I will convert to a wav file saying sorry he could not make it but wanted to thank the PCARC for all of its efforts and wished us good luck for the weekend!

Nearly 5500 QSO's all in the name of fun down from last year but we did not have the spectacular conditions we had last year (Sporatic E skip on 6, 10, 15 M). But we made up for it with some huge efforts on 40 M (both CW and SSB)! Of course 20 M was its usual tremendously fun band too!

We compared the Maxcom all band automatic tuning system to a conventional 80 M dipole - it lost and was confirmed to be a fraud. FD is all about trying things - antennas, rigs, new gadgets, and of course the socializing and the public exposure - the PCARC is the gold standard here!

Regards,

Mark, K1RX

FIELD DAY 2007

FIELD DAY 2007 OFFERS A LEARNING OPPORTUNITY FOR HF NEWCOMERS

Although Field Day 2007 is still more than three months away, many ham radio clubs and groups already have begun making plans for this year's event, Saturday and Sunday, June 23-24. Field Day has always been an ideal time for new hams to become more proficient operators and for prospective licensees to get "bitten by the Amateur Radio bug." That may be even more the case during Field Day 2007, as many radio amateurs gain new HF operating privileges because of the rule changes that went into effect February 23 ...

2006 Field Day Wrap-up - Your Comments Please!

Outstanding effort at all levels - TEAM WORK is truly the answer here. Geez, I love this club
the way it works, the way it grows and supports the wide range of
interests! It is amazing when you go after FD to have FUN, and conditions
are fantastic on the high bands (E skip) and support the new and less
experienced folks - WOW what a score, the best ever for the PCARC and
something to really be proud of!

Field Day Training

There will be a training session for CT Logging and Operating Techniques in preparation for Field Day, on Wednesday June 21, 2006, 7pm at the clubhouse in Greenland. There will be a review and practice with the CT logging program along with a discussion of operating techniques for anyone interested in learning or brushing up on their skills prior to Field Day. While it would be impossible to train on the full capabilities of CT, we will review the functions necessary for FD and run some more "practice pileups". If you have already installed CT on your laptop, bring it along, and club laptops will also be provided.

Field Day FUN FUN FUN

Folks, it seems that some members are STILL not clear on what the goals are for this years Field Day. So, once again, in order of importance, here are the goals hoped for by your FD planning team:

1. Many operators, new and experienced alike, everyone gets a chance at the mike/key that wants to.To that end we ask experienced ops to sign up on the FD signup page, and to work together with new/lesser experienced hams at each position as a coach. See the signup page for more detail on this (link: www.w1roc.org/fd/cgi-bin/start.cgi/fd/login.html )

2. Put together an awesome setup so that everyone can get the benefit of great radios, great antennas, operating from a great site.

3. IF we win our category, it will be because so many of you, our members and friends came to the hill, helped out with the setup, planning, cooking, and operating that we win simply by sheer numbers of people having fun and meeting the bonus point challenges, NOT because 6 or 7 hams bury their heads in the radios for an all-out hell bent for leather win-or-die effort.

4. If we do not win, place or show it WILL NOT MATTER because everyone had a GREAT TIME operating in the field, enjoying each others war stories, and playing radio.

We have at least a half dozen newbies in the group, let's all get together to show these folks the spirit of ham radio and Field Day and put on a great show that they can contribute to and be a part of, win or lose !!
